Robosys Automation’s CSO Nigel Lee is guest speaker at MATS 2024 in Southampton
Nigel Lee, CSO of Robosys Automation, will be delivering a presentation at the Marine Autonomy & Technology Showcase (MATS24), being held 5th November 2024 – 7th November 2024 at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton, UK.
During the tenth edition of MATS, the event will explore Marine Autonomous Systems (MAS) to underline its significance and to represent each key aspect through the themes outlined.
Throughout MATS experts and specialists will reflect on significant advancements and aspirations of the previous events, many of which have been actualised over this period and resulted in key developments.
On Thursday 7 November at MATS24, Nigel Lee will present in Theme 4, being Autonomous Platforms: the Next Generation and Supporting Technology. Theme 4 will place a spotlight on the next 12 months of autonomous platform development.
Theme 4 will demonstrate how step changes in MAS technology deliver improved performance through real examples of field operation, whether with a single platform or a fleet of platforms.
Nigel Lee’s presentation in Theme 4 at MATS24 will specifically feature how Robosys Automation has achieved Class Society Certification for a COLREGS Compliant Autonomous Tug.
Other supporting presentations include sensing technologies, end to end systems, situational awareness, navigation, networking, collaboration and cooperation, residency, launch and recovery and novel vehicles, including future vehicle technologies.
Robosys Automation is also exhibiting at MATS for the duration of the event. Please contact Nigel or the team to arrange a meeting to discuss how Robosys’ Voyager software and hardware will help to support your business.

Achieving Class Society Certification for a COLREGS Complaint Autonomous Tug
This presentation delivered by Nigel Lee of Robosys Automation will review a +20-year journey to develop a maritime autonomous navigation system (ANS) for USVs.
From an obstacle avoidance algorithm first developed for the NASA Mars Rover to real-life and simulated autonomous navigation and collision avoidance trials, it has proved its COLREGs compliance from Canada to Australia.
With Indian Register of Shipping class society certification for its Voyager AI software on board an uncrewed 30m tug. Robosys is now working with integrated bridge system (IBS) manufacturers to develop a bridge-based collision avoidance decision aid (CADA) for lean crewed ships to improve safety in complex navigational waters.
