Obstacle Avoidance System (OAS)

Obstacle avoidance is a key task for any Unmanned system if it is to reach its destination without collision. The Robosys Obstacle Avoidance System (OAS) uses highly advanced path planning algorithms to find the most appropriate, safe, obstacle free path from starting position to destination. Robosys OAS will use existing onboard sensors wherever possible for obstacle detection, or we can recommend specific sensors to meet the customer’s requirements.  We will interface our software with any or all of the following:

  • DGPS (preferred)
  • Digital Radar
  • Stereo Vison Camera
  • LiDAR
  • Sonar
  • Log/wind speed & direction/ gyro/ fluxgate compass

Our OAS supports bespoke Robosys Voyager functionality to enable the Unmanned vessel to return home to a predetermined point safely in the event that remote piloting communications are lost. It will calculate a navigationally safe route to follow and will automatically manoeuvre the vessel as a power-driven vessel in accordance with COLREGS to remain safe and predictable at all times.

The Robosys Obstacle Avoidance System in the Voyager series of software applications uses the best hydrographic data available for the operating area and our own Collision Avoidance Programme, linked to sophisticated onboard sensors to ensure reliable, predictable and safe compliance with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (IRPCS, or COLREGS).
